Parlor, Wilber Czech Museum
The Wilber Czech Museum gives you a feel for the lives of the earliest immigrants. It contains replicas of early immigrant homes and businesses of the 1880s. Historical artifacts include a Czech doll collection, an antique quilt collection, murals, paintings, photographs, farm machinery, and Czech costumes. To support the expenses of the museum, local residents make quilts and dolls and weave rugs which are available for sale.
The earliest settler in the area was Tobias Castor, who arrived 1862 and established a post office at “Blue Island” about two miles south of Wilber. In 1864 the Indians made a raid up the Little Blue River and he lost the only team of horses he had. In 1865 he homesteaded the land and occasionally had to hunt game for a living. Later he moved to Wilber and became a land agent.
