Dwight, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish
An original wooden church was built in Dwight in1899. It measured 32 by 68 feet. By 1914 the wooden church was far too small, so a brick Gothic-style church, 43 by 115 feet, was built. It cost $30,000.
Dwight was founded when the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad arrived in 1887. It was originally called Lone Star. In the 1890s a wave of Czechoslovakian immigrants came to town and opened shops and businesses which changed the look and feel of Dwight. In 1962, the railroad (now the Chicago & North Western) abandoned its line and tore out the tracks.
Dwight is one of the many towns in Nebraska to host an annual Czech Festival.
